Knitting and Crochet Kits

We get this question a lot!

Most beginners find crochet a little easier to pick up first. It uses a single hook and one active stitch at a time, which makes it more forgiving if you drop a stitch or need to pull back your work. Knitting uses two needles and requires managing multiple live stitches, which takes a bit more coordination early on. That said, both are very learnable and it often comes down to which type of project excites you more.

Yes. Our beginner kits are designed for people who are new to knitting or crochet, with straightforward patterns, easy-to-work yarn weights, and clear instructions. If you're ever stuck, our staff and community are here to help.

We do! Apricot Yarn & Supply offers in-person classes at our Liberty Station location in San Diego. Classes are a great complement to a beginner kit. Check our classes page for current availability.

Yes! We carry a growing collection of free and purchasable patterns designed by Apricot Yarn owner Sara. Browse the full collection on our Patterns page, and follow us on Ravelry for even more designs.

Every kit at Apricot Yarn comes with yarn and needles or hooks already matched to the pattern, so you don't have to figure that out yourself. If you're shopping for yarn or patterns separately, the pattern will always list the recommended weight and needle or hook size. Not sure what that means yet?
