    About this yarn

Daruma Superwash Spanish Merino Sock is a premium superwash merino wool blend yarn. This line is a collection of solid colorways for socks, shawls, and lightweight garments. Superwash merino ensures easy care, while nylon provides the strength needed for daily wear.

For socks, the free Rose City Rollers pattern by Mara Catherine Bryner is a fantastic match, or try colorwork with the Budding Colorwork Socks by Kristen Conyers. For more sock yarns, browse our Sock Yarn Collection.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Have more questions? Visit our contact page and we will help you choose.

Is it durable enough for everyday socks?

Yes, everyday socks are exactly what this yarn was made for. The added nylon helps with durability for socks and other garments that get frequent wear.

    Can I machine wash it?

Yes! Machine wash with a gentle cycle and cold water for the lowest risk of unwanted shrinkage, to be safe. Superwash wool is better at resisting felting, but not always immune to it, so we recommend laying your superwash wool pieces flat to dry.

    What is Spanish merino?

Merino is the breed of sheep, and this wool is sourced from Spain, where the merino breed was first developed.

How much yarn do I need for a pair of socks?

Referencing your pattern and your desired size & gauge is the best way to ensure you will have enough yarn! For a general example, knitting a pair of Vanilla Bean Socks by Chelsea Berkompas calls for 400 - 463yd of a fingering weight yarn, or two skeins of Daruma Superwash Spanish Merino Sock.

We always recommend Ravelry as an all-encompassing pattern database in the shop. Many patterns on Ravelry estimate the yarn amount you will need for the size you are looking to make, but at Apricot Yarn & Supply, we can always offer advice if your pattern is unclear, you are working freehand, or something else!

What else can I make with it?

Lightweight shawls and accessories, like a colorwork hat, are great options beyond socks for this yarn - it’s soft and easy to wash, and comes in a mix-and-matchable solid color palette. Or, hold the yarn together with other yarns, like in the Fashion Sweater by Pope Vergara, to experiment with pops of color and texture.
