What makes pima cotton different from regular cotton?

Fiber length. Pima is an extra-long staple cotton, meaning each individual fiber is far longer than in ordinary cotton. Longer fibers mean fewer ends poking out at the surface of the yarn, so the result is smoother against the skin, and easier to work with without splitting the strand. holds its color better and pills much less over time.

Is it a summer yarn?

Yes! Cotton is a favorite fiber for summer and hot weather garments and accessories. Made from 100% cotton, Ica is both soft and sturdy, and works great for accessories like bags and baby hats to be used and worn in the summertime and year-round.

How many balls will I need?

Referencing your pattern and your desired size & gauge is the best way to ensure you will have enough yarn! For a general example, knitting size M2 of the Homebody Sweater by Heidi Kirrmaier calls for 950yd of an aran weight yarn, or 11 skeins of Ica.

We always recommend Ravelry as an all-encompassing pattern database in the shop. Many patterns on Ravelry estimate the yarn amount you will need for the size you are looking to make, but at Apricot Yarn & Supply, we can always offer advice if your pattern is unclear, you are working freehand, or something else!

How do I wash it?

Like in your favorite cotton tee, a cotton fabric knit or crocheted with Juniper Moon Farm Bud can shrink slightly on its first wash in warm water or its first time in the dryer, but not unpredictably so. If you’d like your project to stick to an exact measurement, we recommend hand washing, blocking, and laying your project flat to dry.
