    About this yarn

Lamana Perla is a super-smooth DK weight yarn, a combination of pima cotton, baby alpaca, and silk. Our samples made with Perla have crisp stitch definition and a subtle shine, from their tight twist and silk content. and the blend is the whole point. It meets OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100.

Perla is our recent favorite for the Sabai Top by Paulastrickt, made by Sara in 15 Chili, and by Sherri in 16 Bordeaux.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Have more questions? Visit our contact page and we will help you choose.

What do the alpaca and silk actually add?

On its own, cotton adds smoothness and structure. The addition of the alpaca adds warmth without much weight, and the silk adds a shine that gives your finished fabric a soft sheen. The tight twist of Perla emphasizes the qualities of all three fibers with a beautifully crisp stitch definition!

Is Perla a summer yarn or a winter yarn?

Both! Especially in San Diego, we have a lot of visitors looking to make transitional pieces, or those that feel cozy but aren’t too warm for a mild winter. Perla is a recent favorite for the Sabai Top by Paulastrickt, a summer staple and popular pattern on Ravelry for spring and summer, but it also looks gorgeous in cardigans and sweaters!

How much Perla do I need for a sweater?

Referencing your pattern and your desired size & gauge is the best way to ensure you will have enough yarn! For a general example, knitting an M2 of the Mariechen by Isabell Kraemer calls for 1302yd of a DK weight yarn, or just over 10 skeins of Lamana Perla.

We always recommend Ravelry as an all-encompassing pattern database in the shop. Many patterns on Ravelry estimate the yarn amount you will need for the size you are looking to make, but at Apricot Yarn & Supply, we can always offer advice if your pattern is unclear, you are working freehand, or something else!

What can I substitute for Lamana Perla?

It depends which part of the blend you are after. If it is the cotton and alpaca combination, Illimani Sabri is the closest thing we carry in a lighter weight. If it is the shine, a silk blend will get you closer. Visit us at the shop or give us a call to talk through your pattern and gauge and we can help you find the nearest match on the shelf!

    How do I wash it?

Hand wash Perla in cool water with a no-rinse or gentle wash, and lay flat to dry. If blocking, pin your project to your desired measurements while damp, and allow ample time to dry.
