Anyone can learn to knit on their own! It doesn't take some unique crafting gene, and you don't need superhuman talent to learn. You need a set of needles, some yarn, and most importantly, the desire to knit! We do believe that professional instruction can help get you off to a great start. You might eventually figure out specific techniques or better ways to do things on your own, but little guidance from a more experienced set of eyes will help you try new things and gain confidence throughout the process.
Whether you are a knitter with a decade of experience or a beginner knitter about to start their first project, revisiting the knitting fundamentals can help you become a better knitter. We believe there are ten things everyone should be mindful of to become a better knitter:
1. Select quality yarn
2. Use a needle that is recommended for the yarn weight
3. Change needles to achieve a tighter or looser gauge
4. Pick the suitable fiber for the project
5. Try to relax and knit
6. Finish your row before putting it down
7. Add new yarn at the beginning of a new row
8. Practice makes perfect
9. Knit with friends, join a club or find a community
10. Your patience will be rewarded
It only takes a few hours to learn the mechanics of knitting to cast on, learn basic stitches, and bind off. By the time you have completed a project or two, you should be able to see progress and knit evenly. If you dedicate just a bit of time each day, your knitting will become even more. Of course, if you have a friend or a good instructor who can guide you, correct mistakes, and help you when you get stuck, you will feel more confident.
I enjoyed working with this Malabrigo yarn. I crocheted a beanie as requested by my granddaughter. I normally knit but this was a special request. The cap turned out beautiful, comfy and feels wonderful.
I’m using this yarn for the American afghan pattern. It’s perfect for this project.
I have several Lykke small circulars as well as both the 3” and 5or 6 inch tip interchangeable Lykke sets. I love how much easier wood needles are on my hands when knitting…except for sticky yarns and then I have to switch to my metal Chiaogoo needles. I’m about to start a two color brioche class to learn brioche knitting and the yarn is superwash Merino (perfect wood needle yarn) and the two patterns call for 9” circs plus a larger circ (I have the larger in my Lykke sets) and double pointed needles. I don’t have any Lykke DPNs so I ordered the 9” circ and the DPNs in the “supposed” size will need. Let’s hope I get gauge on them or I’ll be buying one more size up or down, right?
I’m giving 5 stars ahead of time then, because I love all my other Lykke’s and I use them for everything but my Shetland wool yarns. I highly recommend the sets. You can get extra cords in any length to use with them. I have the two sets because I often have more than one project going needing the same size needle although I’ve also bought extra tips in my most used sizes. I tend to gravitate to the 3” tips most often.
Great
EXCELLENT MATERIAL!
