100% superwash merino · 100g / 210 yards
Malabrigo Washted is a single ply, worsted weight yarn spun made from 100% superwash merino wool and hand dyed in small batches. Its soft feel and unique colorways make it a beautiful option for easy to wear, rustic looking pieces. As a bonus, the superwash finish makes it easy to care for.
Each Malabrigo skein is hand dyed in small batches, so each skein is unique, and often are labeled with dye lots. When looking to make a larger project, we recommend purchasing all of your yarn at the same time to guarantee the same color throughout!
You may have seen Washted knit up into Sara’s Una Kerchief in Whale’s Road. Washted is also a great option for a close-to-skin hood like the December Hood by Audacious Ewe, soft & colorful. For the same Malabrigo colors in a smooth, plied strand, see Malabrigo Rios.
Orders ship in 2 to 3 business days. Shipping is free on orders of $75 or more within the U.S.
Beautiful yarn to work with. It really does look like the jungle - a tropical bird or peacock feather.
Absolutely delightful yarn!
Making a poncho for my adult daughter. She absolutely loves the color and feel. Everyone in the store was attentive and helpful. Thanks.

Yes! When you use a machine to wash items made from superwash wool, use a gentle cycle and cold water for the lowest risk of unwanted shrinkage, to be safe. Superwash wool is better at resisting felting, but not always immune to it, so we recommend laying your superwash wool pieces flat to dry.
We don’t think so! Washted is 100% superwash merino, which feels very smooth and soft. Superwash wool has been treated to remove many of the microscopic barbs naturally present on each wool fiber, so it does not felt or shrink as readily as untreated wool, and it often feels smoother against the skin.
Single ply means the yarn is one strand spun on its own, rather than several strands twisted together. That is what gives Washted its soft, rounded look and its lovely stitch definition. Because there is no plying holding the fibers together, single ply yarns can pill a little more with heavy wear, so we recommend Washted for hats, cowls, shawls, and other garments that don’t see constant friction during wear. For a plied Malabrigo in the same weight, choose Rios.
Hand dyed yarn is often dyed in small batches, and beautifully unique in that no two skeins are exactly alike. With hand dyed skeins, it is best to work with the same lot for your entire project if possible, buying enough yarn at the start to avoid losing yarn chicken!
Because Malabrigo does not list dye lots for their yarns, we advise purchasing enough Washted for your full project at one time to better guarantee your yarn is all from the same batch. If you are unable to find enough yarn from the same batch in one go, alternating between skeins as you switch from one lot to another can help blend the color transition more smoothly.
Referencing your pattern and your desired size & gauge is the best way to ensure you will have enough yarn! For a general example, knitting an adult M of the Flax worsted sweater by Tin Can Knits calls for 1160yd of a worsted weight yarn, or six skeins of Washted.
We always recommend Ravelry as an all-encompassing pattern database in the shop. Many patterns on Ravelry estimate the yarn amount you will need for the size you are looking to make, but at Apricot Yarn & Supply, we can always offer advice if your pattern is unclear, you are working freehand, or something else!
